It’s a region of the world which is proudly embracing new health and safety technologies and philosophies. Here’s what’s been going on recently in the Middle East from a safety perspective.

Imdaad Honoured at EHS Awards

During the third Dubai Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Awards, one of the area’s biggest names received recognition for all its hard work. Imdaad were bestowed with the top honour for health and safety due to their diligence with safety initiatives and performance excellence.

CEO Jamal Abdullah Lootah said: “Awards act as an encouragement to carry on with the great work as they appreciate and rewards your efforts. Imdaad has always given priority to the health and safety of its employees while maintaining environmental sustainability.”

“Don’t buy fake drugs online”

A recent upsurge in the online sale of fake prescription medications had led to the Ministry of Health publicly slamming their purchase. It is estimated that 95% of the pharmacies found online are illegal and misleading. The fast-moving nature of this worrying new industry means that it is difficult to track its growth and implications.

Speaking at a recent conference, Dr Hussain Al Amiri warned that: “They are deliberately and fraudulently mislabelled with respect to identity and/or source and can apply to both branded and generic products. They may contain wrong ingredients, insufficient or no active ingredients and have fake packaging.”

Business Leaders to Come into the Spotlight at Upcoming IOSH conference

Employee safety should be at the top of all employer’s priority lists and it will be the topic of much discussion at the annual IOSH conference on the 29th of April in Dubai. The agenda will include dealing with challenges in the utilities sector, accident handling and how to investigate incidents properly.

Maissa Nasrallah, chair of IOSH UAE, said: “We want people to go out to work knowing that they will be safe and there is no threat to their health. Big strides are being made towards meeting this aim, but we do not want to rest on our laurels. We are determined to continue our efforts to make workplaces in the UAE and wider region safer and healthier.”
